The Courteeners have announced details of what promises to be a glorious show in the North West this summer. The band have confirmed a headline concert at Wigan’s Haigh Hall Live, on Thursday 30th June. The outdoor concert, with a capacity of over 7,000, will be the opening night in a planned 4 day event at the site. Against the spectacular backdrop of Wigan’s Haigh Hall Country Park, the band will be supported by Merseyside band The Coral, and promising Salford-based starlet Ren Harvieu, with further acts to be announced in the coming weeks.

Ed Simons from The Chemical Brothers expressed his frustration about Radiohead’s extended publicity campaign yesterday. The electronic star criticised the hype that has followed the release of Radiohead’s latest record ‘The King of Limbs’, saying the album “sounds like nonsense”.

Katy Perry and Calvin Harris have had a contemptuous exchange of words on Twitter after the Scottish musician backed out of his scheduled slot as support act on the current leg of Perry’s UK tour. The singer had been announced as main support act for Perry’s performances in the UK and Ireland, but backed out after a supposed change in stance from Perry’s management.

A California-based company has been fined $950,000 for selling The Beatles’ songs online in a groundbreaking court case this week. The website BlueBeat was shut down in December 2010 by a federal court for selling tracks online for a heavily-marked down price.

The singer chose not to discuss the details of what specific drug abuse he was recovering from, but described the experience as “hardcore”.

New Jersey indie rockers Yo La Tengo have announced details of a June UK tour, which will see the trio perform a rather unusual set. The show is described as “a show of two halves with no support act where anything goes… so long as the wheel has the final say.” The tour will include a performance at London’s Meltdown Festival. Former Radio 1 DJ Mary Anne Hobbs is to return to radio for a new weekly show on Xfm, which begins on 9th July. According to her website, Hobbs’s primetime Saturday evening show will feature “UK funky, minimal techno, deep house, hip hop, electronica, grime, neo-folk and art house rock... no holds barred.” After fourteen years with Radio 1, Hobbs parted ways with the BBC station in 2010 to concentrate on live DJing.

The Black Angels are currently looking forward to hosting the fourth installment of their annual music-and-arts festival, Austin Psych Fest right now, which runs from 29 April to 1 May 2011. Fast becoming the premiere destination for psych lovers, this year’s bash will see performances from Spectrum, Roky Erickson, Crystal Stilts, Crocodiles, The Fresh & Onlys, The Growlers, Cold Sun and tons more. “The original idea was just to throw a party and invite the bands that we liked,” they say. “With something like SXSW or ATP you never get to see all the bands you want to see, so we're being a bit selfish in a way and bringing them all to our place!”
